Tennis Performance & Development
Better players need better environments around them.
Psychology-led tennis development, coaching and performance support for competitive players, coaches and families.

OUR STORY
Building better players through better environments.
Seabury Performance’s work in tennis began with a simple observation: developing a player requires more than improving their technique.
Through years of working with competitive juniors, professional athletes, coaches and families, we saw how much of a player’s development was shaped by the environment around them. The coaching they received, the opportunities they had to compete, how they responded to setbacks and the support available when things became difficult all played a part.
Yet psychological development was often treated as something separate from everyday tennis training.
We wanted to change that.
Our tennis provision was built around integrating psychology into the places where players actually learn and compete. Rather than relying solely on conversations away from the court, we create opportunities for players to practise decision-making, manage pressure, develop independence and learn through the challenges of the game itself.
Today, our work spans individual performance support, on-court psychology, player development, tournament support and integrated academy programmes.
Led by Dr Tom Seabury and Connie Dayman, we bring together coaching, psychology and wider performance expertise to support players at different stages of their journey.
Our approach recognises that every player is different, but the principle remains consistent:
We don't simply develop tennis players. We develop the people behind the performance and the environments that help them thrive.
OUR SERVICES

SP Tennis Academy
Integrated development. Built around the player.
Our academy brings together tennis coaching, performance psychology and physical development within a coordinated training environment. With small coaching ratios, individualised support and regular opportunities to develop under pressure, we focus on building adaptable, independent players capable of taking ownership of their performance.
Psychology is embedded throughout the programme, not delivered as an occasional addition. Every element is designed to support the development of both the player and the person.

On-Court Psychology
Practise the psychological skills competition demands.
Psychological development should happen where players are expected to perform. Our on-court sessions integrate focus, decision-making, emotional regulation and pressure management directly into tennis training.
Through representative practices, challenges and match-based situations, players learn to recognise their responses, apply psychological strategies and develop skills that transfer into competition.

Cognitive Tennis
Develop the thinking behind the performance.
Our gym-based cognitive tennis sessions combine physical activity with cognitive and psychological challenges to develop the skills underpinning effective performance.
Using structured exercises and interactive tasks, we challenge attention, reaction, decision-making, adaptability and the ability to process information while under physical and mental demands.
Sessions complement on-court training, helping players develop greater awareness and control of how they think, respond and make decisions.

Match & Tournament Support
Support where performance matters.
Competition presents challenges that cannot always be replicated in training. We provide individualised support before, during and after matches and tournaments, helping players prepare effectively, navigate pressure and learn from their competitive experiences.
Support may include pre-match preparation, live tournament attendance, between-match guidance and post-match reflection, with insights brought back into training to support continued development.

Coach & Parent Support
Developing the people around the player.
Players are shaped by the environments created around them. We work with coaches and parents to develop a shared understanding of psychological development and the behaviours that support learning, confidence and long-term progression.
Through individual consultations, workshops and practical education, we help coaches and families navigate communication, expectations, competition, setbacks and the challenges of junior development.

Camps & Development Opportunities
Different experiences. New opportunities to develop.
Our specialist camps and development sessions provide opportunities for players to experience new challenges, develop their skills and learn within supportive, demanding training environments.
Combining tennis coaching with integrated psychological development, sessions are designed around specific performance themes and the needs of the players attending.
From junior development camps to targeted performance sessions, each opportunity is built to encourage learning, independence and the practical application of skills in competition.
OUR BELIEFS
We have six core pillar beliefs that shape how we support all our athletes, regardless of age or level.

Person first. Athlete Second.
Performance does not start with tactics or technique. It starts with how we feel as human beings. When the person is supported, rested and grounded, the tennis can take care of itself.

Learn the game. Not just the shots.
Real success in tennis comes from understanding the problem the game presents and knowing how to solve it rather than executing isolated shots.

Prepare for the big moments.
Success when it matters most is not luck. It belongs to the players who train for those moments long before they arrive.

Resillience matters.
Tennis is tough on the body and mind. We have to prepare both simultaneously.

A match is not something you play. It is something you solve.
We focus on developing players who can think clearly, adapt quickly, and find solutions, no matter what is in front of them.

Every shot is a decision.
We help players move away from reacting emotionally in the moment and towards choosing the shot that the situation demands.
MEET THE LEADERSHIP TEAM
Meet the people leading our tennis provision. Combining expertise in performance psychology, coaching and player development, our leadership team works to create environments where players can learn, develop and perform at their best.

Director & Elite Performance Lead
Dr Tom Seabury
Dr Tom Seabury is a Chartered Psychologist, performance consultant and researcher specialising in the psychology of elite performance.
As Academy Director and Elite Performance Lead, he oversees the development and delivery of Seabury Performance’s tennis provision, integrating psychology, coaching and performance development into the everyday training environment.
Tom has worked with athletes from junior development through to international and world-level competition, supporting players competing across the ITF, WTA and ATP pathways.
His work extends beyond individual psychological support, encompassing on-court performance development, tournament support, coach education, parental guidance and the design of integrated performance programmes.
Holding a PhD in Psychology, Tom combines research expertise with extensive applied experience to create training environments that develop decision-making, adaptability and the ability to perform under pressure.
His approach centres on a simple principle: psychological skills should not be developed in isolation, but practised and strengthened within the environments in which athletes are expected to perform.

Development Lead
Connie Dayman
Connie leads the development side of Seabury Performance’s tennis provision, overseeing the integration of coaching and psychology to support players through the formative stages of their tennis journey.
As a sport psychologist in training and LTA Level 2 tennis coach, she brings experience from high-performance and multidisciplinary environments, including Southampton Football Club, Army Rugby, the England Amputee Football Association and Bromley Tennis Centre.
Her work across these settings has developed a strong understanding of the psychological demands athletes face as they learn, develop and begin to compete.
She is particularly interested in creating environments where younger players can build confidence, independence and the skills needed to navigate the challenges of competitive sport.
Combining evidence-based psychology with practical on-court coaching, Connie supports the development of focus, decision-making, emotional regulation and adaptability.
Her approach places equal importance on the person and the performer, helping players develop psychological skills that transfer beyond individual training sessions and into competition and everyday life.
